Getting Ready!

Hey folks!  It has been a few days since I have been on here.  Life has been so crazy busy lately!  Since summer has started, I can't believe how much is going on.  So, my apologies for not getting on here.

But all is good!  I start ZumbAtomic tomorrow morning at the Logan Rec Center for the Summer Youth Camp.  This is very exciting!  But I am kind of nervous, too!  I have 2 1/2 hours back to back classes.  The first 30 mintues will be Little Starz and then the last two hours will be Big Starz.  I have been so anxious for this ZumbAtomic stuff to start.  Kids love it!

I have been maintaining my weight well, and eating 90% clean.  I enjoy a few things now and then, but I have been doing so much Zumba and other exercising that I feel like I can get away with it!  I am down 30 pounds now, and the weight is coming off slower.  That is fine with me.  I have given myself about a year to reach my goal.  I know that a healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week.  Boy, those first few months on this, the weight came off fast!  But that's what happens when you cut out grains, sugar, and dairy!  LOL

This last weekend, a few of my friends and I went down to Salt Lake to participate in a Zumbathon.  It was crazy fun!  The only downfall was that it was outside of the Fashhion Place Mall in a parking lot.  First of all, dancing outside on the asphalt is not good for your feet or shins, and second, it was a little hot.  I made sure I took breaks and drank a lot of water.  My main concern was my little friend who is 5 months pregnant.  I really kept a close eye on her.  But she was good and didn't over-do it.  There was a photographer there that was shooting pictures of her left and right.  She looked so adorable dancing in her Zumba wear with her cute little pregnant belly.  We had an awesome time!  I will post pics soon.

I will also be back here tomorrow to let you all know how the summer camp went.  For those of you out there eating clean and exercising....keep it up!  Especially the exercising.  It is vital that we move everyday!

I am off to bed.  Love and peace to you all  :)

Lovin' life!

Today was such a nice day.  I went over to Tremonton to sing for my little seniors.  (If you are wondering about my pink eye, I am no longer contagious!  So, all those little seniors are ok!)  It is always such a joy to go over and sing to them.  They are the best audience ever!  They love the music so much.

When I got back into Logan, I had an appointment at the Logan Rec Center to go in and talk to their youth program director.  I am going to start teaching ZumbAtomic at their summer youth camp starting next week.  Yeah!  I will be teaching ZumbAtomic there for their regular classes but the summer youth program is separate.  I don't start the regular classes for a few more weeks, but I am very thrilled to be starting with the summer youth camp.  I will be teaching every other Thursday for 3 hours a day throughout the summer.  Very exciting!  I checked to see if there was any spaces left in the summer camp, but they told me they were all filled up.  I knew if I blogged about this, some of you might be asking me about summer camp for your kids.  But the ZumbAtomic classes will be coming soon, so I will let you all know!  :)

Tomorrow is the big day I have been waiting for.  My friend and I are going down to Salt Lake to a Zumbathon being put on for the American Cancer Society.  This event will go from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.  This is a treat for me because I don't get out of the valley very much, plus I just love our ZES that is putting this on.  I have learned so much from her!  But the biggest thing of all.....being a cancer survivor myself.  I am a big supporter of anything raising money for cancer awareness.  This will be an awesome event!  I will try to get pictures so I can post them on here.

Sunday will be a relaxing day with my family.  My son will be turning 13 in July, and he is at an age where he wants to be hanging with his friends or hanging somewhere else........anywhere but with mom!  But I knew this day would come.  He is such a sweet boy, but he is turning into a teenager and his little life is changing.  From the time he was tiny, he has been glued to my hip.  We are super close because my husband travels for his work, so most of the time it is just my son and me.  I remember when I got pregnant with him back in 1997.  It was quite a surprise, but I am so blessed to have him.  He is my only one.  I was extremely sick while carrying him and I just couldn't have anymore children.  So, needless to say, he is very well taken care of and spoiled.  I love him with all me heart!

Tonight is early bedtime for me!  I have a big day tomorrow with all that dancing going on  :)
Oh....and I just have to tell you all this.  Please don't think I am trying to sound grandiose or vain.  But I had the nicest compliment last night at my Zumba class at the church.  We all like to hear the positive about us, right?  Well, I have the cutest lady in my class from Colombia.  (Beto Perez, the creator of Zumba, is from Colombia)  She started coming last week and she just loves Zumba so much!  When class was over, she came up to me and asked me where I learned to dance.  I told her that I used to dance many, many years ago (like back in grade school and Jr. high) and I was so happy to be dancing again with Zumba.  Then she said, "You dance beautifully.  You dance like you are from my country, Colombia."  Wow.  I was flattered.  That is such a great and awesome compliment.  I have to confess that when I have Latina women in my class, I feel a bit intimidated because I feel like I am not dancing like them, and maybe deep down they are judging me!  This lady is a beautiful dancer, too, and it was an honor hearing that from her.  So, just wanted to share that!  Now back to eating my humble pie.....

Drink your water!

I don't know if any of you who follow my blog here has noticed how much water I drink in a day.  Every morning when I get up, I chug 32 oz of water first thing.  Then I always make sure that I drink at least 16 oz of water with every meal.  Water is magic for your body.  No lie!  It has so many benefits and here are ten of them:

*Healthy skin
*Flushes toxins
*Reduces risks of heart attacks
*Cushions and lubes your joints and muscles
*Makes you energized and more alert
*Helps you stay regular
*Reduces risks of disease and infection
*Regulates your body temperature
*Helps burn more fat and build more muscle
*Good for you whole well being

Now, since I have been drinking so much water everyday, I have noticed a HUGE change in my skin and hair, which are two things I really take pride in.  Water just keeps everything in your body CLEAN....especially when you are drinking the proper amount every single day.  Plus, I tell all my people in my Zumba classes to please drink their water!  Especially now that the weather will be getting hotter, it is vital that we all drink our water.  Stay hydrated folks!  Your body will love you for it!

If you are addicted to soda pop, I challenge you to give it up for two weeks and drink only water.  It will be hard at first and you might even have headaches.  But you will feel so good after one week.  I guarantee it!  Plus, drinking lots and lots of water will help you lose weight.

It has been a few days since I have written here.  The last few days have been so darn busy, and then when I finally sit down to relax and blog, I am soooo tired.  *sigh*  I am not going to write the day number in the subject title now....just have a good subject.  Where summer is kicking in, I am going to have a super busy summer schedule, but it is all good!  I told you good things were coming.  I will try to write here everyday, but if I skip a day, don't fret!  My eating is going well, and I have now incorporated more foods into my diet.  I pretty much eat what I want, but still steer clear of the dairy.  I try to keep it clean 90% of the time.  But I have had my days where I have enjoyed a few treats.  Last but not least.....portion control!  I have noticed that I can eat what I want, as long as it is in moderation and proper portion sizes.  It really works!

I really make it a priority to get my 5 fruits and veggies in a day.  When I do that, it really helps to keep me on track.  I have turned a lot of my focus to a variety of exercise.  I have tried to shake things up a bit.  I have wonderful dvd's here at my home of Pilates and Baptiste power yoga.  My next goal is to sculpt my arms.  I hate the jiggly thing that is there right now when I wave bye bye....or even do Zumba!  LOL  I want it gone!  So, I am proud to say that I am a very active girl these days.  A total and complete change from a year and a half ago.

I will also, of course, be doing my Zumba a lot this summer.  I will be starting up ZumbAtomic soon at the local rec center two days a week, then I will be teaching it for their summer youth program.  I am meeting with the director tomorrow to get it all set up!  Weeepah!  Then I will still teach at Altius a few times a week.  With all this exercise, I hope to see more pounds melt away.  With that much activity, I should!  :)

I found out yesterday that I have pink eye.  Sheesh....where in the heck did I pick that up?  I taught Zumba at the church Tuesday night and I got some sweat in my eye that burned like crazy.  When my eye got all red and swollen the next day I thought, "Wow, that sweat is some nasty stuff to get in your eye!"  But when the red wouldn't go away, I went to insta care to get it checked.  Sure enough.  The doc sent me home with some drops and I am already feeling better.  Oh the little setbacks in life.

Well, just to let y'all know that I have setbacks like everyone else...let me share this with you.  As much as it pains me to, I will anyways.  Well, last week I was on the Zumba website and noticed their cute new line of clothes.  I was browsing through their cargo pants, and there are these darling wonder cargo capris.  They almost look like parachute pants from the '80's.  I figured I had lost enough weight to fit into their largest size.  So, I added a pair to my shopping cart, and with the pants, I bought a sports bra, halter top, and jingle bracelets.  The package arrived Wednesday, and I couldn't wait to get it open!  I pulled out the clothes, admiring how cute they were and how "cool" I was going to be teaching in my new Zumba wear.  Everything looked like it would fit me A-OK.

Then yesterday, I tried everything on.  The bra and halter fit perfectly.  The pants....well, not so much.  I just still have too much junk in the trunk and couldn't get them over my butt and hips.  Burst my bubble.  I am one of those girls that has bigger legs and hips.  Even when I am at my thinnest, I do not have ultra thin legs.  These pants seemed perfect, too!  They sure look a lot bigger in the legs, but I guess I am just not at the size I should be to wear them.  I thought about returning them, but decided against it.  And no, I am not going to do a torture diet to get x amount of weight off until I can fit in them.  The weight will come off like it should, 1-2 pounds a week.

My solution?  I have a darling friend here in town that is an excellent seamstress.  I am meeting with her tomorrow and we are going to make these darn pants work!  I can sew, but I know she is a pro at it, and she will know what to do.  I may have to purchase some spandex at the local fabric store to alter it, but I want to wear those pants!  Plus, I really wanted to have that outfit for ZumbAtomic.  Sooooo.....I will make it work!  The time will come when I can buy those cargos straight from the ZIN shop and be able to put them on with ease.  But for now, I will do what I have to do to wear them!  LOL  I have always been a fiesty one.  Here is my motto:  "Tell me I can't, and I will show you that I CAN!"    And so can all of you, my friends!

Hope you all have a splendid evening!  Here is what I ate today:

Breakfast-
1 bowl Quaker Oatmeal with almond milk
1 slice 9 grain bread (toasted) with raspberry jam
1 c. sliced kiwi
32 oz water

Mid-morning snack-
1 rice cake with peanut butter and honey

Snap out of it!

Wow.... I been in a funk for the last several days.  I gotta let certain situations quit getting me down.  My weekend didn't start off so well.  I was supposed to go sing for my little seniors last Friday, but I was up most of the night with a sick stomach.  Not sure why.  I had to cancel my gig, which is something I REALLY hate to do.  My music is my soul food, and without it, I really suffer.  Plus, I hate to let all the folks down.  But I worked it out with the director to go over in a few weeks and redeem myself!  :)

So I rested most of the day and got ready for my overnight stay in the hospital that evening.  I had to go stay overnight at the sleep lab for my sleep study.  That. Was. Awful.  Oh my word....it was not what I was expecting at all!  LOL  I checked in at 9 pm and headed back with the nurse to get all prepped.  It took her a half hour to get all the wires and monitors hooked up to various parts of my body.  By the time she got done with me, I looked like a walking voltage box.  Here is a lovely picture of what I looked like.  Good thing I can laugh about it.

I had electrodes glued in my hair, behind my ears, on my legs, and wires up my nose.  Now tell me....how is a person supposed to sleep like this??  Well, you don't.  They gave me about 45 minutes to wind down and lay there and read a little.  Then they came in and turned the lights out.  There I lay, trying to sleep.  Tossing and turning.  Oh no.  I have to pee!  I call the nurse.  This is the crazy part.  Try to get up and use the bathroom while all those wires are hanging from your body!  Not fun at all.  Now, I am a pretty low maintenance person, and can go with the flow, but that was very weird and uncomfortable.

So, I get situated back in bed.  Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep.  Let me tell you, this is all mental.  I was not comfortable in this environment at all.  And let me just say that the staff there was great!  They did everything in their power to make me feel good.  I even recruited several of the nurses there to come to my Zumba classes!  hee hee  But for the life of me, I just could not fall asleep.  Plus, the 1001 wires glued to my body did not help.  The nurse told me that if I reached the 4th stage of sleep they would come in and put the CPAP machine on me to see what level I would need it at for in the future.  I never even got that far.

I finally dozed off, but very lightly.  The next thing I knew, the nurse came in at 6 am to wake me up saying it was time to go.  But there was no CPAP machine on my nose.  Guess I didn't make it to the 4th stage.  She said I did get enough minutes in to run a study, but I may have to go back and sleep over again with the machine.  Awww heck.  Not what I wanted to hear.  But hopefully I still qualify for a machine, because I am a super bad snorer and something needs to be done.  I need more oxygen to my body when I sleep.  I know my days would be alot better and I would have more energy if I was getting the proper amount of oxygen at night.  When I finally went home the next morning, it was quite a chore getting all that glue and gunk out of my hair.  I had to actually put Dawn dish soap in to dissolve the glue!  Ack!  Not pleasant.

The rest of the weekend was ok, but I felt like I was down the whole time.  A few things have happened that have taken me by surprise over the last week or two.  Things that you can say blind sided me, but actually, I could see them coming.  I know...weird.  Things are working out now,  but I just didn't feel like blogging or being very social.  This sometimes happens to me, and I just need to be left alone and let it pass.  Life is not always perfect.  I may get knocked to my knees, but I NEVER get all the way knocked down.  I will get up again.  Things really aren't that bad.  Just a few things that happend that made me think, "Why?"  or "That was unacceptable" or "I certainly would have handled that differently than you did!"  But it is what it is, and life goes on.

I am back to being me.  Finally crawled out of my hole and things are fine!  Life is very good and I need to learn to roll with the punches a little better.  I have to tell myself that things could be a lot worse!

I love my new gig teaching Zumba at Altius Gymnastics Academy here in Logan.  We kicked off our first night there tonight, and we had 5 people.  Not the number I had hoped for, but it will grow.  I love the spring board floor!!  It is soft and cushy and feels so good on my feet!  That is so what I need....especially with all the feet problems I am having.  Plus, when we jump, it makes us feel athletic!  LOL  It actually makes the dancing so much more fun.  I love it!  Plus the sound system there is killer.  Being a musician and all, that really has an impact on me.  You should see the rack and power amps this gal has for her system!  Super cool speakers up on the wall with a lot of low end that brings out the bass end.  OH YEAH.  Super dooper cool.

I am looking forward to this next weekend because my husband wants to take our boat out.  Yay!  I love the water and I love boating.  Maybe we can even catch a fish or two.  I am very blessed with the life that I have, so it embarrasses me when I get down over trivial things.  But the good news is, I have snapped out of it.  Life is good and life will go on!  I had a super great day today.  I started by waking up at 5:30 am and headed over to a friend's house for a great workout.  She does private teaching in her home, and it was amazing!  I loved the workout she did with me and a few other ladies there.  It really jump started my day, and was different that what I am used to doing.  It totally got me out of my comfort zone and shook up my workout, which was good!  Thank you girl!  You know who you are!  Can't wait to come back and do it all over again!  :)

Here is what I ate today:

1 slice 9 grain bread toasted

Day 81- Happy Feet!

Finally! I went out shopping today and I bought some other workout/dance shoes that I think will work great!  I bought some Nike Musiques and they felt dreamy when I put them on.  Ahhh!  They have great support, but also a little room to give when I dance.  My feet are very, very happy  :)

I am also very happy today!  Like I told you before, good things are coming, and today was living proof of that.  I am starting up some new Zumba classes beginning next week.  I got a team of great Zumba instructors, and we will all take turns teaching different nights.  We will be teaching at a local gymnastics place called Altius, and we just confirmed everything with the owner today!  I will be teaching every Monday night at 8:30 pm, and then the other instructors will teach Tuesday nights at 7 pm, Wednesday nights at 8:30 pm and there will be a Saturday morning class at 9 am.  We will all rotate teaching that one.  For any of my Zumba peeps:  if you want more information on this, please call me @ 435-760-9566 or email me @ bkimball66@yahoo.com

I am so excited to have this great team of gals to teach Zumba.  This will be awesome because we all have different strengths and styles and it will offer a great variety.  Starting in July, we will have another local instructor join our team, so there will be 4 of us!  I am still going to teach my class at the church.  I will never give that up because that is where I started and those ladies there love it so much!  So, any of you church ladies (and gentlemen) reading this, don't panic!

Today was also a good day because the weather was finally warm and that made me very happy, indeed!  I have just had enough of winter!  Blech!  I am sure the rest of you are with me on this one.
