Hi friends! I just wanted to blog real quick and let you all know that I am taking a break from blogging for a while. I will be back next week with more inspiration, recipes and fun filled days. So, don't fret. I will be back soon. Any of you that are following my meal plan, just go back to the previous days and follow those menus.
I would just like to write a little bit here about my frustration with the fitness world. I absolutely LOVE Zumba, but since I have entered this world of fitness, I find that it is very cutthroat. I cannot believe the competition that goes on. It can be so vain and narcissistic and some instructors will run you over just to get where they want to be. Wow. I feel so naive and stupid at times. But I am the type of girl that wants to have fun and be everyone's friend. I went into teaching Zumba because I love it, and I want to share it with others. I also care about people. I do not teach Zumba to perform or show off. I teach it to inspire and help people with their health. Zumba has helped me in more ways than one, and I want to pass that feeling on to others. My wonderful ZES, Lindsey Taylor told us in all the trainings I have been to...."Dance to inspire, not to impress." Such a smart, insightful girl she is. I love her to pieces and she has taught me so much. Lindsey, if you are reading this, I want to be YOU when I grow up! :)
My motto: Can't we all just get along? Each and every one of us has a different and unique styles, and we need to embrace it. I love and care about every single one of my students. I do not want to see them get injured so I tell them during class to PLEASE listen to their bodies. We have a formula in Zumba called "Intermittent Training." That is where you start off with high intesity, get the heart rate up, then slowly bring it back down again. Then bring it up again, slowly down. Over and over till the class is over. This intermittent training helps to burn fat and is good for the heart. A lot of people think that you need to stay way high with your heart rate all hour long to get benefits. That is wrong. That only leaves you in an anaerobic phase. Bringing your heartrate down, then jump starting it back up again is what burns fat and makes your heart strong. I worry with some of the formats these other instructors are using because someone is going to get hurt. It is NOT about us as instructors. It is about our students and their well being. We should not treat it as our own workout. If we want our own workout, then we should seek it elsewhere when we are not instructing.
I am so excited about teaching ZumbAtomic! I have something in the works, so I will let you all know when that happens. I am also desperately trying to find a Zumba Gold workshop (Zumba for Senior Citizens). Unfortunately, there are no Gold workshops here in Utah. I have emailed the ZO office to ask them if they would please bring a training here! I may have to fly out to another state to certify. Anyway, there is a saturation of Zumba instructors everywhere. I want to certify in the specialties so I can teach Zumba to EVERYONE. Children need exercise and so do senior citizens. I sing every single week to the seniors, and I would love to be able to stick around after I am done and teach them Zumba Gold. As soon as I have the Gold training under my belt, I will spread the word and I will get everyone from young to old participating in Zumba! Weeepah!
Zumba also offers Aqua Zumba, so you can dance in the water! I LOVE to swim and love playing in the water. Growing up as a kid, I was always around water. That reminds me so much of Brad Paisley's song, "Water." He talks about how water was a big part of his life growing up, and most of his social events were centered around it. My grandparents owned a summer home in in Newport Beach, CA when I was a kid, and from the time I was a baby, up until 16, I practically lived on the beach every summer. Oh how I loved the ocean. I would go out neck deep in it and ride the waves with my body or ride on a body board. Dodging those waves was the funnest thing. Then I remember looking up to find my grandparents or mom, and they would be WAAAAY up the shore! LOL I always lost track of time and the current would sweep me downshore to where I was almost a block away.
Then there were the summers at Bear Lake at my parents cabin. They own a boat, and I was always in the lake swimming or water skiing. I am an Aquarius, the water bearer. So appropriate! So, Aqua Zumba is a certification coming in the future. Water exercise and resisitance is wonderful! Especially for people with bad knees and joints. I am super excited to further my education in Zumba and share it with everyone! How blessed I am to be part of this amazing program. A big thank you to Beto Perez for creating Zumba and inspriring others. Ok, that is all.
